When dragon boat racing began, there was only one division: mixed.
This consisted of crews racing with up to 14 men in the boat and the rest of
the 22-paddling crew being eight women. Crews commonly raced with 10 or more
women, often with only a few men in the boat. As the popularity of dragon boat
has grown, women have played an important role in fostering and promoting the
sport and so too has the surge of women teams entering festivals.
This is the 5th year that the Canada Dry Victoria
Dragon Boat Festival has offered a Women’s Division. With a maximum capacity of
30 teams, it currently stands at 22 teams. The teams currently registered are
from close and far – BC and Oregon. Don’t miss out in the fun, register your women’s team now!
