Three more years with the BC Cancer Foundation!

The Victoria Dragon Boat Festival Society is proud to announce a renewed agreement with the BC Cancer Foundation, and a $65,000 donation for 2012.

On Thursday, April 18, Mark Mawhinney and Tony Joe, the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival Society's Board of Directors presented a cheque for $65,000 to the BC Cancer Foundation, the final total from all fundraising initiatives in 2012. This donation brings the total for all funds raised to date up to $438,000.

Even more exciting, the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival Society was also able to announce a three-year partnership with the BC Cancer Foundation.

For the past five years, the VDBFS has raised funds for the BC Cancer Foundation through popular initiatives including the Lights of Courage Campaign and the Paddlers' Pledge Drive. The three-year agreement will enable the VDBFS to build on the traditions already in place, and take our fundraising to the next level. We are proud to support the BC Cancer Foundation, an organization which makes a tremendous difference in our communities. All funds raised through the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival's fundraising campaigns stay local, and contribute to world-class research and care projects taking place on Vancouver Island.

Want to get involved? The 2013 Paddlers' Pledge Drive will be starting soon. You and your team can help fund a cure by raising funds through your own initiatives. The Paddlers' Pledge Drive will starting soon, email info@victoriadragonboat.com to find out more.

The annual Lights of Courage Campaign will begin in July. This touching display brings Victorians together in the support of those in our lives who have been affected by cancer, and in the remembrance of those who have lost their battles. Lanterns will be available for sale at Fairway Market locations, The Bay Centre, and Denny's Restaurants. Write a message on your lantern's tag and bring it to the Festival where your lantern will join thousands of others in a moving display of community and hope.

The BC Cancer Foundation is the bridge that connects philanthropic support and research breakthroughs in cancer knowledge. As the fundraising partner of the BC Cancer Agency and the largest charitable funder of cancer research in this province, the Foundation enables donors to make contributions to leading-edge research that has a direct impact on improvements to cancer care for patients on Vancouver Island and throughout our province.
